Metallica... Shittest band ever?

St. Anger - the only album of original material that Metallica have released between 1997 and the present time (2006). Pretty lazy for a bunch of dudes who don't do anything else.
Okay, this is regardless of whether you actually like Metallica’s songs or not. Forget all that stuff. As far as genre goes, each to their own. My argument for proving that Metallica are the shittest band ever has nothing to do with their music… it does however have everything to do with their lack of music releases. Check it out, between 1998 and 2003 they released...
Garage Inc... double-album, no new originals!
S&M... double-album, a meagre two new originals!
They released two fucking double-albums with fuckall material on them. They're fucked. I fucking hate James Hetfield, he's a dopey fucking redneck moonshine drinking hick cunt with shit for brains. Lars is a fuckwit and he looks like a girl and I hope he goes to gaol for something someday and gets fucked in the arse by angry bikers. Kirk is a pansy and does shit solos. I don't know the name of their new bassplayer but he must be a dickhead to want to play in Metallica. Their new album might be okay, but how could you tell? The drums sound like fucking pots and pans, and Hetfield’s vocal tracks sound like it’s karaoke time at the local RSL. So, whether you’re a Metallica fan or not, based on the irrefutable evidence I have just presented, you have to admit – Metallica ARE the shittest band ever.
I rest my case.

I think you're going to get some strong opinions back about this.
I'm not sure about shittiest ever (though they'd be up there), but I'd definitely vote for them as the laziest. 2 double albums with only 2 new songs just reeks of money grabbing to me.
I've never loved Metallica, but I really went off them when Lars (who you're correct is a Fuckwit) carried on about people downloading Metallica songs via Napster and had them kicked off it etc...blah, blah, blah any excuse for the idiot to get his face on tv.
I went to Big Day Out in 2004 when Metallica headlined and I couldn't even be bothered sticking round to see their show.
They're irrelevant to the world of music these days.

I have to admit that the band is one of the shittiest ever now. St Anger sucked balls through the eye of a needle and the whole Napster thing was a joke. Also, James Hetfield is the identical twin of the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz.
And let's not forget how shitty their band name is. METALlica. Metal Licker? What the fuck? It's like naming your B-boy posse, Hiphoppica, or your folk troupe Folkkica (actually, that sounds like a rude word, so would be a pretty cool name for a band).

Let me clarify... Metallica is by no means the "shittiest band ever." Might I introduce the B-52's and Nickelback, as exhibits "A" and "B"... but I do sympathize with the thought process used to come to this conclusion. Metallica was once seen as a force of rebellion, and escapism from the 80's glam rock stylings of Whitesnake, and ... JackyL. (yes, with a "Y"... i know, i know...) And for that, I am appreciative. But to drag a sucessful musical career down into the muck-filled marsh of mediocrity, is not just sad. It's down-right depressing. The band that once stood up for the ideals of "less eye-liner" and "more overdrive", have sold out. And are now scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel, and scrounging for leftover shreds of success, to wet their beaks.
Well, I for one say... RIP... for the Metallica I knew growing up... has been dead for years.
May others learn from their mis-steps.

Nice subject to cause debate - have to admit that I am a Metallica fan, and I can't beleive that you would label them 'the shittest band in the world'.
Using your example of S&M - how does this album differ from Oasis, KORN, Atomic Kitten, Westlife and Blink-182 bringing out their greatest hits albums? At least the 'Tallica boys tried soemthing extremely diffrent by fusing two completely diffrent musical genres - they didn't just sell out and release a greatest hits album, and cash in on the success of one or two mediocre albums that contained a handful of alleged 'hits'!!
Who cares if they have only brought out three albums since 1998! The Rolling Stones and KISS are still touring, and when was the last time that either one of those legendary bands released an album of new material??
I know where you are coming from re. Napstar and living the high life - but what I want to know is why are you picking on Metallica??
You don't reckon that there would be less talented bands out there who are cashing in on the success of one, two three or even four career albums, and are living a comfortably rich life on the back of that limited amount of fame.
Remeber that the 'Tallica boys are pushing their late forties, and Lars and James have families now. They have been touring since 1979 for christ's sake - why not cut back on a hectic past 27 years, and stop and live life!
I just beleive that there are worse bands in this world that deserve the title of 'shittest' !

They are still the shittest. If you want to compare Metallica to bands like Oasis, The Rolling Stones, KISS, Westlife or Korn, and put them on the same level, well it pretty supports my argument about how shit they are. Like Decius said, Metallica were a revolutionary band in the 80s, and look at how passe they've become - THAT is what makes them so shit. To be that great, and to fall so far... Westlife were always shit and will always be shit, so if you want to put them on the same level as Metallica - well, it's pretty insulting to Metallica, hahaha. Which is great. Cause they deserve to be insulted for the crap they've brought out in the last ten years.

So why are you picking on just Metallica - at least they have paid their dues over twenty plus years of recording.
Your title and opening paragraph suggest that in your opinion Metallica are shit because of their limited amount of releases- I could list a handful of different bands that have released the same amount of albums over the same period, and who have enjoyed less career success- why don't you label them shit???
I agree that Metallica have sold out and chased the corporate dollar, but that still doesn't make them the 'shittest band ever'.
And as for you secod point - once again I agree that Metallica's efforts of late have been nowhere near their creations of time past, but as you well know, when successful people (especially sportspeople) age, there life is consumed by diffrent aspects eg. marraige, family etc. Noone is perfect, and everyone does lose interest in their career at some point in their life - so why just pick on the 'Tallica boys???
Let's just agree to disagree - you beleive Metallica are the shittest band ever because of their limited, quality releases over the past 8 years (one third of their career), while I beleive that their are literally hundreds of other talentless, less succesful bands who desrve the title of 'shittest band ever!!'

Good to see someone enter the debate. The Rolling Stones may have broughtout a record last year, but when was their last one - this is the whole point to Luke's debate, in that Metallica are shit due to them only brining out three albums.
Metallica may be married to metal, but yes, they are family men. As I said earlier, I agree that they have sold out, and yes Luke, as a fan I dissapointed with that.
But my whole point is this - why should Metallica be branded the 'shittest band in the world' , when quite clearly there are heaps of other bands in the world who have contributed less, and therefore deserve the 'shittest' mantle.
I just don't know why Luke has chosen Metallica - surely you would both agree that the Backstreet Boys are worse?? I know they are of a different musical genre, but nowhere does Luke's story state that the band must be purely metal.
That has been the whole point of my arguement all along.

I actually do agree with you that Metallica aren't the shittest band in the world. That's what Nipplesack are for. But I think the bands you are mentioning are so below the level of actual music that it's kind of pointless pointing out how shit they are. It's like shooting prematurely-born babies in an incubator.
Calling Metallica the shittest band in the world is exaggerating, but I think that's the whole point. It would be a bit boring to debate the merits of the Backstreet Boys because they were really just a government plot to encourage the Metrosexualisation of the male population.
I think this debate is actually pretty funny, and I like how everyone's sort of arguing good-naturedly about it. I think you appreciate that too, which is cool. What would be even better though is if some rabid Metallica fan came on here and started flaming everyone. That's always piss funny.

Backstreet Boys aren't as shit as Metallica, because in regards to their chosen genre, the Backstreet Boys are pretty good. Ask a pop/top 40 r b fan what they think of the Backstreet Boys and I'm sure they'll agree that they're the masters of their genre.
Metallica have fallen big time. This makes them the shittest. A similar example would be if The Beatles stayed together after Let It Be and just released a double-album of their favourite covers as their next album, and then followed that up a few years alter with orchestrated versions of Beatles songs. They would've been destroyed by the press and their fans if that was all they had done in six years. I don't understand why Metallica fans are so protective of Metallica when Metallica jumped the shark so badly.

I think Metallica are no longer as important as they used to be. Should they break up respectfully or keep on truckin'? Judging by Metallica fan, and many others, there are still a lot of people who get something out of what they do. That's as much reason to stick around as any, even if it means clearing the vaults with some old covers. The fans wanted it, and it sure beat tracking down the original Garage Days and paying exorbitant amounts for it. Also, it wasn't St Anger, which is a bonus.

rick rubin can't save them.....he fuckin sold out anyway....hes the head of columbia now....you know....columbia/sony bmg........don't quote rick rubin's credits as slayer or danzig....his real credits are beastie boys, ll cool j and the whole def jam movement.....now he just does neil diamond, jonny cash (rip), shitknot and soft crap for his terrible label. hes as bad as metallica in terms of selling out.....the only difference is that he is actually talented sonically.
anyway, back to the real point.....the damnation of this filthy pack of money grubbing sell-out weaklings. as a metal fan, they have not done anything since ...and justice for all. this on its own is not enough to justify why they should be exterminated, because a genre change is allowed....i would have thought the rock and/or roll crowd would have loved their weak as piss black album......no.....what really gives everyone the shits is how they think they're entitled to an opinion on metal and music in general when they have not participated for almost 20 years.....jsut fuck off to your mansion....admit that you love money not metal....and fuck your wife by the pool.....gene simmons does.....and even he gets more respect than pooftallica
