Dear Westfields Penrith
August 17th 2006 04:44
This is a letter I sent to Westfields shortly after they took over Penrith Plaza from Lendlease.
Dear Westfields
Congratulations on your acquisition of Penrith Plaza and the success of your extensions to it. I frequently shop in Westfields all over Sydney and I was glad to see my own local Plaza fall in with your company, and I was hopeful that it would pull itself up to standard again as a result.
Most Westfields shopping centres I have been to have rather comfortable couches and seats for tired shoppers to use for resting between heavy bouts of healthy spending. We all love to have a good spend, don’t we? Now… I have waited for quite some time since you took over the Plaza and yet I still see none of these style of seats, all we have are the considerably less-comfortable wooden benches. I fail to see why Penrith denizens should be deprived of the high quality seating that patrons of Pagewood, Burwood, Parramatta, Hurtsville et al enjoy. Are we not worthy of it? Are we not to be trusted with such seats? I doubt that citizens of Parramatta would be more responsible than the good citizens of Penrith. I’m not gonna name names or dob anyone in, but I’ve seen quite a few people in Parramatta mistreat your comfortable vinyl-style seats in ways that a Penrith citizen would blush at!
Also, whilst I appreciate the extensive spreading of the Westfields logo throughout the Penrith Plaza, I would like to see more work done to the toilets. I’m not saying that Penrith citizens don’t appreciate or enjoy the many signs spread throughout the centre, but I think we’re entitled to a little hygiene too. In fact, I think the Westfields Penrith shopping centre is the only Westfields I have been to that lacks the paper hygiene seats that are found everywhere else. I have never liked putting my bottom where other people have put theirs, and I would like to be able to place a paper covering between my bottom and the seat next time I need to defecate in your toilets, rather than catch any unsavoury diseases or germs. Luckily, I have been able to do this in other Westfields, but it would be nice to be able to visit my local Westfields and feel safe in regards to it’s toilets.
Do you think we will get our toilets upgraded to be in line with all the other Westfields any time soon? Do you think we will get nice chairs soon too? I would be very excited to know, then I could tell my friends and family and we could spread the word and people would be happy to know that Penrith will no longer be behind all the other best suburbs.
I look forward to your correspondence!
Thank you (my name is Luke!)
They replied and assured me that the toilets would be upgraded within six months. A year has gone by and it's still yet to happen... I think another letter might be in order!
